Obama advisors and Trump Country - Winter 2018
Good morning from DC! We've hit the ground running in 2018 with great shoots for old and new clients alike.
A few weeks ago, I photographed Ben Rhodes, an advisor to President Obama and a prominent player in the new documentary that just came out - The Final Year, showing the behind the scenes of the last year of the Obama administration.
I also spent a few days in Grundy, Virginia for The Wall Street Journal. Deep in Virginia coal country, Grundy had the largest percentage of Trump voters in the country and a year in, is still all-in for Trump.
This past weekend, my 100 Days of Trump story won 2nd place for best Political Photo Storyin the White House News Photographers Association's Eyes of History contest, as well as receiving two individual image awards.
On a more personal note, our family spent some of our winter vacation in Austin, Texas, wandering the city, eating great food and marveling at the accomplishments of Lyndon Baines Johnson at his Presidential Library.
It's easy to get caught up in our tumultuous times that feel unparalelled in our history, but I took some solace in reading about the true societal upheaval of the late 1960s and how our country (mostly) came out stronger for it.
Here's hoping for some peace and understanding in 2018.
