Don James, 79, at his home in Portland, Oregon. James was terminally ill with prostate cancer that had spread to his bones. He had talked with his doctor about getting the medicine needed to end his life under Oregon's Death With Dignity Act.

James died peacefully at his home on October 22, 2005.
