Stephen Voss takes photographs for magazines, newspapers and organizations around the world. His work is a mix of lit portraiture and reportage. He counts the following among his accomplishments:
1. Making Mikhail Gorbachev laugh during a portrait session by asking him to look "very strong." Video evidence to the right.
2. Working around the world for clients like Wired, Outside, Esquire, Vanity Fair, The New York Times Magazine, The Atlantic, Time, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, National Public Radio, Stern, Washington Post Magazine, The Guardian, and Smithsonian Magazine, and having his work recognized by Communications Arts and American Photography. Some recent tearsheets can be seen here.
3. Regularly being asked to shoot politicians and other very busy people with multiple setups in thirty minutes, which usually turns into five minutes.
4. Having his portrait of Desmond Tutu used on his biography, having another book cover he shot shown on the Daily Show and photographing First Lady Michelle Obama after she arrived 45 minutes early for the shoot.
He lives with his wife and their two beautiful children in Washington, DC.
Stephen makes it his job to take remarkable, memorable photographs and is available for assignments on location in Washington, DC and everywhere else, too.
