Photoshelter serves as my online backup in case I ever have some crazy power surge/house fire and lose all my images. After weeks of uploading and mailing a 1TB drive to them, I now have about 1.5TB of my photos backed up, nearly everything. I've also submitted a few images to their Collection and was happy to see one of my shots in the small slideshow that Ryan Schick from Conde Naste Portfolio showed during the Photoshelter Shoot! The Day. The photo of the US Capitol under stormy skies (the first of a few sales so far) is one of the more obvious metaphorical shots a photographer can make in these parts, but I think it fit nicely for the article about the lack of government fundng for medical research that can be read online here.
